Main Festivals

In Singapore, cultural differences are celebrated on a grand scale by all. Besides celebrating global festivals such as Christmas and New Year, Singapore has its own unique celebration for each racial group such as Hari Raya, Deepavali and Lunar New Year. Leading up to these festivals, streets would be decorated with beautiful lightings.

  • Chinese New Year is one of the most celebrated occasions each year. This is the biggest and most significant event of the Chinese community. During this time, the streets come alive with traditional music, stunning street light-ups, and are filled with delicious scents from the night markets set-up in neighborhoods throughout Singapore.
  • Christmas is considered the most enchanting time of the year. Orchard Road and Marina Bay are transformed into a tropical winter wonderland during this period, by festive street lighting, brilliant water features and picture-perfect themed sets. Many malls and retailers offer special shopping deals, late night shopping as well as post-Christmas sales.
Food

Singaporeans love good food. We have a selection of international cuisines found in places such as Dempsey and Rochester Park. We are immensely proud of our local hawker food centres and coffee shops, such as those in Lau Pa Sat. One 'must try' is Singapore's renowned live seafood delicacies. 'Halal' food, suitable for Muslims, and vegetarian food is also widely available. Whatever it is, there's something to suit every taste.

  • Maxwell Food Centre
Experience an authentically Singaporean dining experience by having a meal at a hawker centre. Located in the heart of Chinatown, Maxwell Food Centre is home to unique local food such as Hainanese Chicken Rice and Chilli Crab.
  • Haji Lane
On the fringe of the CBD, it is a mecca for fine Arabic cuisine, with numerous quaint restaurants and al fresco cafes in the old Arab quarter.
